For my this project I chose to create a bank vault. The original environment is inside a ship traveling over the ocean. Everything is pristine and perfect with a lot of light. The bank vault door is open to display all the treasure including gold, gems, a sword, and a seemingly not-so-valuable orb. The vault is ridiculously secure and safe making it seem as though the items inside are of great value.
Things take a dark turn, literally and figuratively, as the altered environment shows the same bank vault but this time it is after the ship has sunk. The vault is at the bottom of the deep ocean where the light from the surface barely reaches. Much time has passed since the shipwreck and the metals and many of the other treasures have started rusting and are becoming covered in moss. Despite this, the orb that seemed to have little importance in the original environment is now glowing and emitting the only light at the bottom of the ocean. As the vault sits there and the orb glows, a whale can barely be seen swimming past. This helps show how deep the treasure really is and undiscoverable it is. Some technical difficulties prevented me from fleshing out this scene quite as much as I would have liked. More pieces of the ship could have been visible and the ground could have been detailed with a little more precision. Despite this, the environment still demonstrates the condition of the vault and tells the story of what happened between the two environments.

Composition: Incan Fridge (2022)
For my this project, I chose to focus on the Incan style and architecture. Existing during the beginning of the 16th century before being wiped out by the Conquista, the Incas were known to have their architecture built with asymmetrical stones that were placed together like the game Tetris. Although they mostly ate vegetables, they ate meat for special occasions. I chose to create a smart refrigerator in that same architectural style that can be used to store meat. Since, at the time, there was no simple or easy way to keep things cool, it will become more of a food storage. The main portion is a similar size and shape to a refrigerator except for about 1.5 times its size.
The most important stylistic cue to this piece will be incorporated into what makes this particular refrigerator/food storage “smart.” People purchase smart refrigerators as a way to make remembering things like expiration dates and such a lot easier. Although the Incas did not have a written language, they were able to keep records through quipus. Quipus were cords with knots that were used to keep records and communicate information. They did this through the different colors of the cord, knot placement, and type of chord. Placing quipus in front of each section could function in a similar way to the smart fridge. The cords are in front reminding the owner what and for how long the food has been in storage and how much more time it has before it goes bad.
The Incas built their well-crafted buildings wherever they conquered and much of the land where they were located was very mountainous (like Machu Picchu). Therefore, the entire smart food storage building is on a hillside similar to the locations of many Incan cities. This will add to the stylistic choices of creating a smart refrigerator in the time of the Incas.
