Repositioning a Local Handyman Brand Into a Real Estate Partner
Project Overview
Punch-Buddy is a Boulder-based, real estate–centered home services company specializing in punch lists, inspection repairs, move-in projects, and wildfire mitigation. The goal of this project was to reposition Punch-Buddy as a trusted, professional, and locally grounded partner for both homeowners and real estate professionals while clearly communicating what they do and why they’re different.

I led a full website redesign and brand refresh, transforming Punch-Buddy’s digital presence from a generic handyman site into a clear, confident, real estate–focused service brand.

The Challenge
The original website made it difficult to quickly understand:
- What Punch-Buddy actually specialized in
- How they were different from other handyman companies
- Why real estate agents and sellers should trust them during high‑stakes moments
Visually, the site lacked cohesion, hierarchy, and consistency. From a content standpoint, key differentiators such as local expertise, owner involvement, and real estate fluency were buried or missing entirely.
Research & Competitive Analysis
I started the project with competitive research across local handyman, punch list, and real estate service websites to understand common gaps and opportunities. Most competitors struggled to clearly communicate their value, relied on generic service language and repetitive CTAs, and lacked strong visual hierarchy or scannability. These insights shaped an early strategy focused on clarity, differentiation, and simplicity to ensure Punch-Buddy’s purpose, services, and value were immediately understood within the first screen.
Key takeaways
- Lead with immediate clarity: services, value, and next steps are visible above the fold.
- Differentiate Punch-Buddy as a real estate–focused partner, not a generic handyman.
- Simplify navigation, messaging, and CTAs to build trust and reduce clutter.
Strategy & Process
Information Architecture
The information architecture was restructured to mirror real-world real estate workflows, making it easy for users to quickly find the service that matches their situation. Core offerings were organized into clear, purpose-driven pages, each with dedicated landing pages featuring focused messaging, SEO optimization, and conversion-driven calls to action.
Messaging & UX Writing
All website copy was rewritten to clearly and quickly explain what Punch-Buddy does while reducing stress around inspections, negotiations, and closings. It emphasizes transparency, speed, and quality craftsmanship, consistently reinforcing what sets Punch-Buddy apart, while maintaining a tone that balances professional confidence with a warm, approachable, local feel.
Visual & UI Improvements
- Simplified layouts with clear hierarchy (H1–H3)
- Removed visual inconsistencies and unnecessary decoration
- Introduced stronger typography contrast for readability
- Applied consistent color usage using a 60/30/10 balance
- Increased real, work-in-progress imagery to reinforce credibility

Website Analytics

During the redesign period, the Punch-Buddy website saw immediate, measurable gains in visibility and engagement despite the short analysis window. While long-term trends are still developing, these early results indicate stronger discoverability, clearer messaging, and improved user flow following the structural, messaging, and SEO improvements.
Next Steps

With the Punch-Buddy website live, the focus shifts to refining and expanding the experience to further strengthen trust and connection. Future enhancements include custom photography and videography to showcase the team, real projects, and Boulder-specific contexts, helping personalize the brand and reinforce its owner-operated, local expertise as the site continues to evolve alongside the business.
